About the Design

An invitation to communicate with Houdini beyond the grave. The front features an authentic photograph from one of the early séances held in an attempt to contact Houdini, alongside the words spoken by his wife, Beatrice Houdini, at the conclusion of the tenth and final year of their seances: “I now reverently turn out the light. It is finished. Good night, Harry.”

The ten-year period was an agreement between Harry and Beatrice before his death: if possible, she would continue attempting to contact him for ten years, looking for the secret message they had established as proof that he had found a way to communicate from beyond.

The back features an open pair of handcuffs referencing Houdini’s promise that, if there were a way to escape the physical world after death, he would demonstrate it. The handcuffs he associated with this promise remain locked to this day. Here, they are shown open, not as a claim that Houdini escaped death, but as a tribute to the idea that, in some way, his spirit and legacy remain with us.

Alongside them is the secret code he gave Beatrice: “Rosabella, believe.” “Rosabelle” was the name of a popular song Bess used to sing in her vaudeville act. A final message between husband and wife, and an invitation to keep looking beyond the veil.
