About the Design
Challenge to Houdini pays tribute to a British theater advertisement from Houdini’s performances in the United Kingdom. Originally displayed at the Regent Theatre in Salford, the poster shows a public challenge Houdini with restraints and situations they believed he could not escape.
The front features the striking “Challenge to Houdini” title from the original advertisement. The back reproduces a later section of the poster describing one of the challenges, in which restraints had reportedly been obtained from an asylum for Houdini to attempt to escape.
